Following is taken just as written from a letter written by Samuel S. Fife.
“Peter and Hannah were called by President Brigham Young to go south and help settle the following places: Parowan, later Johnson Fort, Cedar City, and last Hamilton Fort, where he spent the rest of his life. He took up a farm and was a very good farmer.
“They arrived in Cedar City in the winter and were advised to go to Parowan for the rest of the winter. Their second child, Peter Barrows Fife, was born there, 8 January 1852. They moved back to Cedar City, but only for a short while, for the next child, a daughter, Alice Fife, was born at a fort six miles west of Cedar City which Peter named Siden, but was later and still is Hamilton Fort, on 2 February 1854. There were only two or three families there at the time.”
