History: Hugh Thompson Rowley

Hugh Thompson Rowley was born in the covenant on 2 February 1879 in Meadow, Millard, Utah, United States to John Thompson Rowley, age 31, and Jane Paul, age 29. He was the 6th of 9 children, and the 3rd of 5 sons, born to the couple. His older siblings were: Harriet Ann, who was born 1 March 1869 in Meadow Creek, Millard, Utah, United States; John Thompson, who was born 3 January 1871 in Meadow; Elizabeth Jane, who was born 5 January 1873 in Meadow; Eliza May, who was born 4 January 1875 in Holden, Millard, Utah, United States; and Ralph Nephi, who was born 10 August 1877 in Fillmore, Millard, Utah, United States. 

When Hugh Thompson was 1 year old his father took a 2nd wife, Mary Jane Smith, in polygamy on 23 June 1880 in Saint George, Washington, Utah, United States.

On 29 May 1881, when Hugh Thompson was 2 years old, his sister Clara was born in Meadow. Sadly, she only lived until she was almost 2 years old and died 30 March 1883.

When Hugh Thompson was 3 years old his half-brother, John Henry, was born 10 February 1882 and his brother Royal James was born 16 October 1882. They were both born in Meadow. 

David Smith, Hugh Thompson’s half-brother, was born 29 August 1883 in Meadow. Hugh Thompson was 4 years old at the time.

On 28 October 1885, when Hugh Thompson was 6 years old, his half-brother, Silas Asael was born in Meadow.

When Hugh Thompson was 7 years old, his brother William Wallace was born 6 July 1886 in Meadow. Sadly he only lived a short time and died when he was 1 on 18 February 1888. 

Mary Ann, Hugh Thompson’s half-sister, was born when he was 8 years old on 5 December 1887 in Meadow. 

Hugh Thompson was baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, when he was 9 years old, on 28 September 1888.

On 1 January 1890, when Hugh Thompson was 10 years old, his half-brother Franklin Irvin was born in Meadow.

When Hugh Thompson was 14 years old, his half-brother, Ephraim, was born, and died, on 14 October 1893 in Spring Glen, Carbon, Utah, United States.
