1896 – About sundown, I walked up town. I went up to Burton’s. Mr. Burton took Esther (Emily Esther Sperry), Mrs. Burton, Della Kendall, Lil Black (Lillie May Black) and myself up to a dance in the Little Grand. While there I was introduced to Julius Pratt, Esther and I used to know him years ago, but we had almost forgotten him. About eleven o’clock Mr. Burton took four of his partners up to his home I remained a little longer and the Oscar (Alfred Oscar Lunt) took me up there for Burton’s were entertaining at their home after the dance was over. There were present. Della Kendall, Lil Black, Esther, Mrs. Burton. After the dance was over Clifford Bales with his violin and Will Jenkins with his cornet came and furnished some music. All seemed to enjoy themselves. They all claimed they had had an enjoyable time. The boys and Lil Black left but Della Stayed on at Burton’s. Mrs. Burton gave me a silk handkerchief and a pair of mittens.
1896 – I went up town with Melvin (Henry Melvin Sperry). He brought back a book the Esther (Emily Esther Sperry) had borrowed at the library, ‘At the Mercy of Timarius’. In the afternoon Mrs. Burton and I went down town. First to the post office and then to Hyde’s Store. She waited at Hyde’s Store while I went over to Foot’s Store. Then we went over to the Excelsor and then up to her home. About five o’clock Esther and I went down to the home of Judge Higgins to call for our cousin Lil Black (Lillie May Black) we went to Hyde’s Store and then to the Excelsor and the Lil went back to Higgins and I walked up with Mr. Burton to his home. In the evening we went to a dance in the Opera House.
1896 – I went down to Grover’s to see May (Grover). It was her birthday. She was 17 years old. May and I came up to the post office. Oscar Lunt (Alfred Oscar Lunt) came in and talked to us for a few minutes. May and I took a walk while waiting for the mail to be delivered. I went up to Grandmothers and found Esther (Emily Esther Sperry) there. I went up to Burton’s and had dinner. Esther and I got Mother (Caroline Webb) and we three went down to Hyde’s Store. Mother waited there while I went over to the drug store then we started back to Grandmother’s. I went into the Excelsor and while there they gave me a nice box of Choice Candy to take to Mother. Later Mother and I came down home. Coming down the lane the horse (Old Johnie) stumbled and I dropped the line. We were afraid we might have a runaway but Mother quickly reached down and picked up the line so we reached home safely. In the evening Father (Charles Henry Sperry) and I went up town to a theater. I played on Clifford Bales little organ.
1896 – In the evening Melvin (Henry Melvin Sperry) took me up town. We went over to Hyde’s Store then over to the Excelsor and then up to Grandma Sperry’s (Emily Louisa Miller). I left Melvin there and went up to Burton’s. Esther (Emily Esther Sperry) and I went down town. We met Mr. and Mrs. Burton. He returned to town and Mrs. Burton went to class with us. I slept up to Burton’s.
1896 – Mother (Caroline Webb), Baby (Ruth Sperry) and I went up town. We stopped at Grandmother Sperry’s (Emily Louisa Miller) then went over to the School House and talked to Esther (Emily Esther Sperry) for a while, then we went down to the Excelsor. Mother had some shopping to do. Mother had some shopping to do so Mrs. Burton and I went to the post office then to Hyde’s Store and on the drug store. While waiting for a prescription to be filled Oscar Lunt (Alfred Oscar Lunt) entertained us by showing us their Christmas goods. He gave both of us a tiny little doll. I went back to the Excelsor and we went up to Grandmother’s and then out home.
