May 1, 1897 (Saturday) – Toward evening Esther and I walked up town, we called at Della Kendall’s and then went up to Burton’s. In the evening we went down to choir practice we found there wasn’t going to be any, we returned to Burton’s where we spent the night.

May 2, 1897 (Sunday) – It was fast day. Esther and I went to Sunday School afterwards Esther, Della and I went over to the post office and then down to Kendall’s we stayed until meeting time, which was one o’clock after meeting I hurried up to Burton’s before it started to rain. In the evening, Esther and Della came up and we all went to meeting in the Tabernacle. Esther and I slept up to Burton’s.

May 3, 1897 (Monday) – I went for a music lesson, then down and on out home. In the afternoon, Ed Shepherd and two or three others came and wanted me to go over to Mona fishing. (I’m sure I didn’t go).

May 4, 1897 (Tuesday) – Esther and I went up town. Walked down in town and then went to a meeting in the Academy Hall. Oscar took me home. Esther and I slept up to Burton’s.

May 5, 1897 (Wednesday)– Esther and I walked out home. Towards evening I went up town with Grandpa Sperry. I went up to Burton’s and then down to Foote’s for a shorthand lesson. Returning to Burton’s I stopped in Aunt Sarah Abbott’s talking with her for quite a while. Later, Oscar came up to Burton’s and spent the evening. I slept up there.

May 6, 1897 (Thursday) – I walked out home early in the morning. In the evening, I went up to Salisbury’s on an errand. I stayed until after dark and Ada brought me part way home.

May 7, 1897 (Friday) – I stayed home all day for a change.

May 8, 1897 (Saturday) – Esther and I went up town with Grandfather Sperry. I went up to Burton’s and then down to Grandmother’s. Met Esther and we went down town. We walked up to our lot and then down to Burton’s. In the evening we went to choir practice on our way home we stopped at the merry-go-round.

May 9, 1897 (Sunday) – We called own to Moore’s and Mrs. Moore went to Sunday School with us. Afterwards, Mrs. Moore and I went over to the post office and then up to her places. I stayed in Moore’s until Esther passed and then went out and walked up to Burton’s with her. Lon brought me a note from Oscar. In the evening I went down to Foote’s. Going down I walked part way with Bishop Parke’s. He wanted me to go to meeting, but I couldn’t. I went down to Foote’s for a lesson but Mr. Foote’s wasn’t home so I did not take a lesson. I went up to Grandma’s and then left her to go up to Burton’s. I met Oscar and he walked up to Burton’s with me. Mrs. Burton was going over to Smith’s, so we walked over with her and then returned to the house.

May 10, 1897 (Monday) – I went down to Aunt Emma Hague’s and took a music lesson then on down to the post office. I had dinner up to Burton’s. In the afternoon, I went down to the courthouse and took a shorthand lesson and practiced on the typewriter. Towards evening Esther and I walked out to the farm. I fixed my business affairs so that I would not have to go up town for two weeks.

May 11, 1897 (Tuesday) – Was home all day.

May 12, 1897 (Wednesday) – Was home all day.

May 13, 1897 (Thursday) – Father had to play at the Excelsior so I had to go up town to play the organ for him. We played all afternoon until after six o’clock then I went over to the post office and then up to Aunt Sarah Abbott’s. I went back down town again and when we left the Excelsior we went over to the merry-go-round. Oscar came over there and took us over to where Father was. He wanted Father to let us stay up town overnight but he wouldn’t, so we had to come down home.

May 14, 1897 (Friday) – Ed Shepherd came over and brought his little brother for a music lesson. In the evening Esther and I took a nice moonlight stroll.

May 16, 1897 (Sunday) – I went down to Nortonville Sunday School. I went down to Noble’s and had dinner and spent the afternoon there. About sundown Nellie Noble brought me home in their buggy, she let me out at the top of our land as I started down the lane someone called to me I turned and went back and found out it was Zoa Christensen, Jennie Kendall and Brig Garrett. I talked to them for a few minutes and then came home.

May 17, 1897 (Monday) – Thomas Smith came down and showed us a lot of samples of wall paper. In the evening, Mother and I went up to get Esther.

May 18, 1897 (Tuesday) – I stayed home all day.

May 19, 1897 (Wednesday) – I stayed home all day.

May 20, 1897 (Thursday) – In the morning I went up to Salisbury’s then over to Parkin’s and then I came down home. About sundown, George Foote and his wife came down and I rode up town with them. I went to Grandmother’s and then down to the post office. I met Lon crossing the street and he gave me a letter from Will Tolley. I went back up to Grandmother’s and prepared to go to the dance in Miller’s Hall. It was the wedding dance of Marie Gould and Lester Gustin. We went to the dance with Oscar, Esther and I. we didn’t stay until the dance was out and when we did go home it was raining hard. Esther and I slept to Grandma Sperry’s.

May 21, 1897 (Friday) – Esther and I walked out home. Oh! How tired we were and sleepy too after the Ball.

May 22, 1897 (Saturday) – In the afternoon Esther and I walked up town. We called in at Aunt Sarah Abbott’s and then went down town. We met May Paxton and we three went over to the Excelsior and then over to Hyde’s Store. I went over to the drug store, Fred Moore and his wife were there. I went up to Burton’s. In the evening I went down to Foote’s but as Mr. Foote was so tired I did not take a lesson. Coming back I met Oscar by Judge Higgins home he walked up to Burton’s with me. I left my books there and we took a walk.

May 23, 1897 (Sunday) – Della called for me to go to Sunday School. We called for Mrs. Moore but she wasn’t ready so we went on without her. After Sunday School we called at the post office and as we were passing the drug store Lon Lunt came out and walked along with us. We left Della on Higgins corner and walked up together. We stood talking down by the bridge for a few minutes and then I went up to Burton’s. In the afternoon, I went up to Sarah Coles to see Della Kendall and we went over to Bigler’s, about five I came back to Burton’s. In the evening Mrs. Moore came up and I went home with her. Oscar came up with Fred we sat there talking for a little while and then Oscar and I went back up to Burton’s. Fred and Millie walked part ways with us.

May 24, 1897 (Monday) – I went over to Aunt Emma Hague’s and took my music lesson. I stayed and did the washing for them. In the afternoon I went down to the court house and took a shorthand lesson. As I was going back I called at Miss Morgan’s shop and talked with her for quite a while. I called in Mrs. Tingey’s to see Zoa Christensen then I went up to Burton’s. About sundown Tommy Smith came there and as he was going out to Mr. Salisbury’s I rode out with him.

May 25, 1897 (Tuesday) – I was sick all day.

May 26, 1897 (Wednesday) – We were house cleaning. About six o’clock in the evening Esther and I went out to fill a tick. We were wondering where we would be and what we would be doing a year from now. In the evening Mrs. Burton and Oscar came down and took me up town. We went for a buggy ride and then came back to Burton’s. Mrs. Burton got out and I went down with Oscar to his sister’s while he put up the horses and buggy and then we walked back up to Burton’s.

May 27, 1897 (Thursday) – I walked out home.

May 28, 1897 (Friday) – Towards evening I went up to Salisbury’s and got Ada and we went down to Sam Tolley’s to see Etta.

May 29, 1897 – (Saturday) – I walked up town, I went down to Kendall’s and then up to Aunt Sarah Abbott’s. I went down to the Excelsior and waited until Esther and Della came. We all three went over to Hyde’s Store and then I went up to Burton’s. In the evening I went down to Foote’s for a shorthand lesson. I slept up to Burton’s

May 30, 1897 (Sunday) – Esther, Della and I went to Sunday School. Afterward I went over to the post office and started up home with Min Abbott. We met Art, he had just come over from Mammoth. I went up to Grandma Sperry’s to see Aunt Sarah Sperry. She had just come over from Manti the day before. I went up to Burton’s and had dinner. In the afternoon I called down to Moore’s for Mrs. Moore and Flora Moore (Fred’s sister) we went to meeting together. I returned to their home with them, later Neva Booth and Mame Hyde called to see them and I went on up to Burton’s. After supper Mrs. Moore and Flora came up and later Fred and Oscar came there, and we all spent the evening together.

May 31, 1897 (Monday) – I went over to Aunt Emma Hague’s and took a music lesson. Afterwards I walked out home.
