Journal: Jeanette Sperry

1947 (Sunday) – I was almost ready to go to Sunday School when I became quite ill, so I laid down and went to sleep instead. It was almost two o’clock when I woke up. Della (Della Lunt) and Teddy (Ted Lunt Gabbitas) came in for a little visit, had dinner with us and they left for the bus as I started for meeting. I was feeling a lot better.

This evening was a special ward conference. After opening exercises the stake presidency took over. They had met to divide our ward as there is about two thousand people in the ward. The old 17th ward will now consist of three blocks, they are bordering on North Temple and 1st North and running from 1st West to State Street. It includes the block with the church on, but the church property will belong equally to both wards.

The other ward will be called South 17 Ward. Brother Provost will be their Bishop and he has chosen Brother Bettridge as first counselor and Leo Jenson as second counselor with Brother Egan as ward clerk.

Bishop Rulon T. Hinckly will remain bishop of our ward. Brother Lund resigned and the Bishop chose Ralph T. Cannon as first counselor and the ward clerk, Brother Davis as second, while Luther Edwards will be clerk.

We had a lovely meeting and for a couple of weeks we will all meet together and on the 11 May we will meet separately. It will seem strange for a while not to see the familiar faces we have been used to seeing, but it will give the officers more time to get acquainted with their flocks.
