1947 (Wednesday) – Bert’s (Charles Gilbert Lunt) family (Agnes Coalter Golightly; Patricia Jean, Mary Elizabeth, Robert Gordon and Judith Ann Lunt) came in early. Agnes is still very ill. She and Jean remained home with Father and let me go to the parade. Alfred took Mary (Mary Etta George), Lillian (Lillian Lunt) and myself up to Main and 6th South and there we found a nice parked truck on which we climbed to watch the parade go by. It took over two hours to pass, consisted of boy scout groups, bands from all over and lovely floats, the queen and her attendants looked beautiful. It was a wonderful parade.
We took Alfred (Alfred Oscar Lunt, Jr.) out to 2500 South where he has had Father’s (Alfred Oscar Lunt) car to repair. It cost a hundred dollars and he is still getting other work done over at the garage. He wants to sell it for us and if he can’t, he will take it down to California and if he can sell his own car, will purchase it himself as he needs a smaller car for just he and Mary.
We did some shopping at the grocery store, so that it made it a little late when we reached home. Port (Porty Lewis Gabbitas), Della (Della Lunt) and children (Ivy Joan, Gordon Lewis, Larry Lunt, Judith Ann and Ted Lunt Gabbitas) were also there, the confusion was a little too much for Agnes and she was unable to eat any of the lunch we prepared, but Bert had to hurry his family home. Della too was all upset, she had rushed, so to get her family ready and gone off without eating any breakfast, she had stood up all during the parade and it was all too much for her. The parade started about 8:30 or 8:45 a.m.
Alfred worked around home most of the afternoon. Mary, his good helper, they are trying to get a lot of things done for me that I need done. Alfred and Mary stayed home with me in the evening and we played Earl’s (Earl Sperry Lunt) basketball game. Lillian went with Esther (Emily Esther Sperry), Earl and Edna (Edna Viola Nelson) to the Stadium, she said it was a beautiful thing.
Mrs. George (Catherine Ellen Rosser) came and slept with Lillian.
