1947 (Tuesday) – Lillian (Lillian Lunt) went down to The Relief Hall for work meeting. Helped for about five hours.
I cleaned my cellar and Lillian put away the fruit we had done.
Port (Porty Lewis Gabbitas), Della (Della Lunt) and two children, Judy (Judith Ann Gabbitas) and Teddy (Ted Lunt Gabbitas) came in as we were eating dinner. Port came to fix our toilet.
Last Tuesday they had a fire in their basement. Della was ironing and thought she smelled something burning, ran to the basement and found it on fire. Port was home and he was able to put it out without too much damage. One of the boys had started a fire in the monkey stove and the blaze came through a crack in the stove pipe and started some papers ablaze. They sure feel grateful that their house did not burn.
