1947 (Thursday) – As we were finishing breakfast, Edna (Edna Viola Nelson) came over and brought us some eggs and butter. They returned from Pleasant Grove late last night and brought Grace (Grace Viola Harper) with them. Charles Harper (Charles Benjamin Harper, Jr.), Grace’s brother, was buried there on Tuesday.
A few minutes after Edna left, Sister’s Spitzbardt and Gaeth came as visiting teachers. It seems good to have a teacher’s visit once more as I am my own teacher.
After they had visited all the homes, they returned to me and brought the report for me to write up. I am very grateful to them for making this visit in my place.
It has been quite hot all day today. Oh, a little cool first thing this morning.
In the afternoon, Edna and Grace came in. They brought us some lovely vegetables, including corn, cabbage, etc.
When Edna went home, Grace remained and visited with us until Earl (Earl Sperry Lunt) came over and she returned home with him.
We were just sitting down to dinner when Bishop Hinckley and his counselor, Bishop Cannon, came in to see me. They had just heard of my accident and was told I had broken my leg. Oh, how stories do grow in the telling.
After dinner, Sister Margaret Valentine (nee Gibby) called me on the phone to see how I was feeling. Then she told me she was the one who told the Bishop, and it was so strange. The person who told her had been to the home and had told her all about the accident had made the statement that there were no bones broken.
Later Clara Tingey Woodbury and her husband came in to see how I was. They visited for a little while.
