Journal: Jeanette Sperry

1896 (Thursday) – I went up town with Melvin (Henry Melvin Sperry). He brought back a book the Esther (Emily Esther Sperry) had borrowed at the library, ‘At the Mercy of Timarius’. In the afternoon Mrs. Burton (Frances Haddy Betenson) and I went down town. First to the post office and then to Hyde’s Store. She waited at Hyde’s Store while I went over to Foote’s Store. Then we went over to the Excelsior and then up to her home. About five o’clock Esther and I went down to the home of Judge Higgins to call for our cousin Lil Black (Lillie May Black) we went to Hyde’s Store and then to the Excelsior and the Lil went back to Higgins and I walked up with Mr. Burton to his home. In the evening we went to a dance in the Opera House.
