1916 (Monday) – It is almost three years since I wrote in my journal. The boy (George Arthur Lunt) which I wrote about last is quite a sturdy lad now, almost as large as Earl (Earl Sperry Lunt) and they have become such good companions. Alfred (Alfred Oscar Lunt, Jr.) is quite a young man now, or thinks he is, being 16 years old, he and Lillian (Lillian Lunt) are getting quite dance struck. Lillian seems larger than Alfred, she is taller than I am, they are in the eighth grade at school. Bert (Charles Gilbert Lunt) is in the fifth grade and Eva (Eva Ruth Lunt) the fourth, and Della (Della Lunt) is in the second grade. Bert had quite a serious accident, his fall while playing tag at school, he was thrown to the ground and his arm broken almost to the shoulder. It was set by Dr. N.J. Rees and when his father (Alfred Oscar Lunt) came home we had to take him to Provo to have an x-ray. My husband has purchased a five passenger Chevrolet this summer and we took him in that. I only went as far as Spanish Fork and remained at the home of George Batchelor until Oscar and Bert came back there. Aunt Lizzie Batchelor (Elizabeth Ann Lunt) rode home with us. We reached home shortly after dark.
About a year ago a sad misfortune came to us. Father (Charles Henry Sperry) and (Caroline Webb) had gone down to Salina to visit with Pearl (Eva Pearl Spery), who was in the hospital after an operation for an appendicitis. On the 8th of February, Wallace (Wallace Joseph Vickers) went hunting rabbits. As they were about to return home, Father became dizzy, and sinking to the ground, he passed away. It was a great shock to us all, as he went without warning. Mother was very brave during her trouble. Even now it doesn’t seem possible that he is gone. He looked just as if he were asleep.
Grandfather, Charles Sperry, died the year before, in June.
In 1914, I attended mutual a good deal to accompany Lillian there. At their M.I.A. Convention, I was chosen to give a retold story for the South Ward. I told “A Man Without A Country”, winning out here, I later went to Provo. My husband took me up there. Alpine Stake won there.
All last year I was a class leader in Mutual. I enjoyed my work very much. The first part of January, I was chosen to go as a delegate from the South Ward to attend a three day class at the B.Y.U. for the Mutual. There were five us us that attended.
Florence Lunt (Sarah Florence McCune) went for the stake and she and I stayed together. We enjoyed our trip very much. This winter, I have not been going out much. Della Shaw is living with me, this is her third winter with me. Arvilla Broadhead, who lived with me three years ago, is married and has two children, boys.
My husband is still with George A. Lowe Company. It is two wintry for him to take his car now. We have certainly had some snow this winter.
The two little boys (Earl and George) are crawling around like two little animals, they do love to represent some kind of an animal.
I am going to tend Pearl’s little girl (Verdena Vickers) for her while she goes to a concert. She will take her baby (Vallon Sperry Vickers) with her.
Just before Thanksgiving, Pearl, Florence and I went over to Manti with my husband. Grandpa and Grandma Lunt (Alfred Lunt and Piriscilla Pitt) are living in Manti, as they have been called there on a mission to work in the Temple.
We three went here to the temple to be washed and anointed. I certainly enjoyed my trip and received the promise of a lovely blessing.
Grandpa and Grandma Lunt celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on the 8th of December. We had a supper at their daughters, Lizzie Grace’s. And a dance in the evening at the North Ward Amusement Hall. Everyone seemed to have a good time.
Mother’s health is not very good, but she looks well, but if she goes away from her home, she is sick.
She was down here day before yesterday and is still feeling miserable today.
