1944 (Sunday) – George E. Holman (George Eber Holman) and wife (Alice Menetta Thornton) called for me to ride with them to McGill, Nevada. We had received word that Eva (Eva Ruth Lunt) was critically ill in the Steptoe Valley Hospital at Ely, where she was taken on Christmas day. We left here about 6:30, had a pleasant journey, and reached there about five hours later. I found George (George Thornton Holman) and children (Darlene Lunt and Sharon Alice Holman) well, but oh so worried about Eva. After lunch, George took us to Ely. Eva was glad to see us, but we did not remain with her long. She is running a fever of 105. She has an infected finger and diarrhea. They are giving her sulfa drugs and penicillin.

George remained home from work for several days. They gave Eva at least three blood transfusions, the blood being donated by friends of George. Everyone has been so good to them.

Mr. Holman returned home on the 6th, but Sister Holman remained there with me until the 12th. Her son Bob (Robert Oliver Holman) was coming home on a furlough, so she had to leave. While there, we washed and ironed, cleaned and mended. She made a crochet rug. I sewed the rags for it.
