Journal: Jeanette Sperry

1945 (Monday) – Yesterday I forgot to wear dark glasses and in riding home, I felt a breeze on the back of my head. Today when I opened my eyes in the morning, a pain struck my right eye so intense I could hardly stand it. I had to put on my dark glasses as it was impossible to stand the light. I tried to do a little house cleaning and I did some washing. When Dad (Alfred Oscar Lunt) got up, he urged me to take two aspirin and they soon deadened the pain, my eye was all red and inflamed.

I received letters from Earl (Earl Sperry Lunt), Retta (Retta Sperry) and Lillian (Lillian Lunt). Donald (Donald Snader) has been wounded in the right shoulder with some shrapnel in his legs. He is quite cheerful about all, said he has his first airplane, being flown about 35 miles from one hospital to another, was quite thrilled at being able to sleep on a good mattress and between sheets, he said “I got four Japs before they got me.”

I wrote to Jean Snader, Lillian, Alfred (Alfred Oscar Lunt, Jr.) and Mary (Mary Etta George) and Georgetta (Georgetta Marie Lunt), also two birthday cards with a note, to Agnes (Agnes Coalter Golightly) and Earl.
