Journal: Jeanette Sperry

1945 (Sunday) – Easter Sunday, was our Quarterly Conference. I attended the morning and evening sessions in Barrett Hall. I tire so easily when I sit too long, so I didn’t attend the afternoon meeting in our ward.

Oscar Kirkham and another brother were visiting brethren. Brother Kirkham made an appeal to the older people’s parents, to keep waste out of their homes, eat what is necessary, but do not let the children and others take on their plates more than they can eat, for what we save can be sent over to the nations who are starving.

He begged the parents to study their children and if they are interested in something special, make every effort to develop their talents, that they may be prepared to take an active part in the new condition which will follow after the war is over.

He felt there were to be new and better kinds of music, plays, etc. which will present in a more glorious way the romance of the early history of our pioneers and what the accomplished and that great changes would take place in our country and we must be prepared to partake in these great changes, it will be our children who will have to carry on in an active way.
