Journal: Jeanette Sperry

1945 (Friday)* – We got up at one a.m., prepared breakfast, washed dishes and left McGill about 7.30 a.m. for Salt Lake, Utah. Just before leaving, I broke my glasses. We had a nice trip without accident. On the way, saw the most glorious sunrise, blue mountains spread out on either side, off where the sun arose like a beautiful golden ball. I wish I could paint the picture as I saw it. The mountains were low mountains, a long way off. Prior to that, the moon had hung in the sky like a crescent close beside it like a large star. It was worth the trip just to see the two pictures. We reached Salt Lake about 10.30 a.m. I spent the rest of the day doing some of my Saturday’s work. Very tired at night. They (George Thornton, Darlene Lunt and Sharon Alice Holman and Eva Ruth Lunt) all slept here.
