1945 (Saturday) – Today I witnessed the fulfillment of quite a remarkable promise made to us the first part of June by Brother Van Orton at a meeting in the 17th Ward Chapel at a meeting of officers, etc. He told us of an outing which we were going to have as a stake group of genealogical workers at Fairmont Park, someone said “suppose it rains?” He said “It will not rain on the 4th of August. I promise you that, go ahead with your plans, it will not rain on the 4th.“
On the 2nd and 3rd, it rained, almost floods, big pools of water were all over the city in which big and little children were wading and having a glorious time, looked as if it might rain for a week, yet on the 4th of August, it did not rain. In the afternoon the sun shone, the ground was dry and we had our party at Fairmont Park, a fine dinner and program and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I did, Sister Erekso went with me and we rode there and back with Brother and Sister Valentine. I don’t know when I enjoyed a party in the park like that one.
