1945 (Monday) – Was busy at home all day. During the night, shortly after 1 a.m., Eva (Eva Ruth Lunt) was awakened by noise of whistles, car horns, etc. and she awakened me saying she believed it was V.J. announcement. We got up, turned on the radio and found word had been received through Switzerland that the Japs had surrendered, though no official news had been received from the White House.
