1945 (Sunday) – It is Marybeth’s birthday. I attended prayer meeting. In the class, Orma gave the lesson on part of the chart of Bessie Clark, she told of the records found in the Index Bureau, so meager and of the different ways she tried to follow up in following clues found there.
Evening – Attended Sacrament Meeting, Mathew Cowley was the speaker, our new Apostle, first there was a short talk by a priest, Brother Redd, then a Brother Olsen, Eva Olsen’s young son, he has been away in the East working, is married and has returned home recently and now has to go into the Army, he used to be our block teacher and we liked him very much.
Brother Cowley gave a splendid talk. Spoke of ancient prophecies of things that would come to pass in the latter days, and after each prophecy, mentioned would say: nowhere on God’s earth is any organization claiming the fulfillment of those prophecies except The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We are the ones who are building temples unto God and doing a marvelous work in those temples, we are the ones who claim to have the Priesthood, we are the ones who believe that after the Gospel has been preached in every land and claim then the end cometh quickly, he told how the Gospel has been preached in many countries by Sailors, Soldiers and the women in the Armed Forces, by the lives of those who belong to this church and that the way is being opened up for more missionaries not to preach the Gospel, then the end cometh quickly. I do not know that I have quoted him correctly, but it was along these lines. He spoke and the spirit of the Lord was with him in great abundance.
