1945 (Thursday) – For some reason or other I have neglected to write for almost two weeks. I am a busy woman and the days pass so quickly. I thought when I stopped work I would have plenty of time to do a lot of things, but I don’t accomplish as much as I want to, I try to go out and help Della (Della Lunt) once a week, I attend Relief society and now they have asked me to be a Relief Society teacher. Sister Spitzbardt has resigned and they want me to take her place and go with Eliza B. Smith, Sister Robbins asked me to do this.
I have finished the work I was doing for Mrs. Florence Lunt of Kansas City, left the material with Sister Rossiter, who will write the letter I prepared and send to her, I prepared nine pedigree charts and about 23 family group sheets for her, it is such a relief o have that off my mind, as it was real hard work, but I enjoyed being able to search among the books once more and not have to wait my turn to have the girls bring them to me, three at a time.
Last night I wrote a letter to Mrs. Lunt explaining what I had done for her.
We have been having some lovely weather, in the time almost like summer days, it still is nice though, partly cloudy and much colder.
I have been writing to the children about Christmas plans which Agnes (Agnes Coalter Golightly) suggested would be nice, where the adults of our descendants, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, might give one gift for each one. I to draw the numbers and send to each their particular name. I have talked it over with Della, written to Alfred’s (Alfred Oscar Lunt, Jr.) family, Lillian (Lillian Lunt), Eva (Eva Ruth Lunt) and Earl (Earl Sperry Lunt), so far only Eva has responded and she thinks it would be fine, guess I will have to write again to the others. They are all so busy.
Last Sunday we had a splendid quarterly conference, met in the Assembly Hall, the first time for us since Pearl Harbor, there was a nice crowd, we miss the splendid talks of Brother Beasley, but the new stake board did fine. There was one shock for us, in their proceedings, of the 17th Ward, Brother Langton, our Bishop, was made a member of the High council, also Brother Snarr and Brother Durham was put in the Presidency of the High Priests, this means we are going to have a new Bishopric, we have grown to care for our ward leadership as it is, but this church organization is such a wonderful thing we can easily adjust ourselves to new conditions as we believe these things are directed by the spirit of the Lord after prayerful consideration by those in authority, Bishop Langton has been in the Bishopric for 32 years.
On Monday 22nd, I went to the library and commenced again research on my own lines, and my desire is to continue as as often as possible during the coming year.
In a letter from my sister Della (Emma Della Sperry), she stated she has subscribed to the Hartford Times and has put an inquiry in the magazine for information about the parents of Abigail Bishop, our ancestor, wife of Aaron Sperry, she said in a back number of the paper, at the library, she found that Moses Ventrus (father of Grace Ventrus, wife of John Blacksley) married Grace Blakeslee.
Yesterday I spent the day with Della, that baby (Ted Lunt Gabbitas) of hers is surely growing, he has such a sweet smile and he is trying to talk more and even to sing. Little Judy (Judy Ann Gabbitas) is his official tender and she does a pretty good job of it. “OK” she says whenever asked to do anything.
