1945 (Monday) – Washed, then went shopping. Afternoon – Port (Porty Lewis Gabbitas) and family came here and Della (Della Lunt) and all children (Ivy Joan, Larry Lunt, Judith Ann and Ted Lunt Gabbitas) except Chip (Gordon Lewis Gabbitas), stayed here while me and the boy went shopping. They had dinner with us. Before Dad (Alfred Oscar Lunt) left for work he opened our gifts. Dad and I decided not to get each other a present, but we received the following: from Alfred (Alfred Oscar Lunt, Jr.) and Mary (Mary Etta George), Dad a lovely billfold with compartments for photos, etc. and me a lovely gold compact, the first I ever owned; from Georgetta (Georgetta Marie Lunt), Dad lovely tie and a beautiful picture of white flowers in a frame; from Lillian (Lillian Lunt) and Dorothy (Dorothy Snader), a box of fancy fruit: figs, dates and nuts, etc. and some stuffed dates in a separate parcel, for me a lovely apron from Lillian and seven nice dish towels with a different picture on each one.
Bert’s (Charles Gilbert Lunt) folks subscribed for a magazine for Dad and they gave me a lovely covered pyrex dish in a frame. The kiddies gave us a nice salt and pepper shaker. From Eva (Eva Ruth Lunt) and George (George Thornton Holman): Dad a nice box of candy and a deck of cards and for me some velvet or plush red slippers with white fur, oh they are grand and fit some comfortable and warm. From Port and Della, Dad a lovely box of candy and for me the prettiest box of stationary. When you raise the lid there is a large mirror and a mirror on the sides of the box. Ivy Joan, Chip and Larry each gave Dad a pair of hose, and each gave me a lovely handkerchief. Sister Spitzbardt gave me a lovely pair of scuffers, the most comfortable things to slip on feet to keep warm. Earl (Earl Sperry Lunt) was the only one we didn’t hear from.
Sister Spitzbardt also bought us some cookies she had made. My gift from my sister Della (Emma Della Sperry) was a beautiful white satin slip and a dresser scarf. I sent Retta (Retta Sperry) two pairs of garments and a handkerchief.
Sister, Lillian (Lillian May Sperry), gave Esther (Emily Esther Sperry) and me a turkey and Esther cooked it with dressing and gravy and baked potatoes for us. Dad went down and brought the dinner home to me. She is surely good to me the last three Christmas dinners, Maxine (Maxine Carter) sent us some very good plum pudding.
I just finished talking to Ev Layton, the first time we have heard from them since their return home from their mission in the summer.
