1946 (Wednesday) – I went to a funeral in the 17th ward, July Miller. Later Lionel (Lionel Lee Averett) and Ivy Averett (Ivy Rosella Gabbitas) took me to Port’s (Porty Lewis Gabbitas) and his family (Ivy Joan, Gordon Lewis, Larry Lunt, Judith Ann and Ted Lunt Gabbitas), including Lillian (Lillian Lunt) joined us with their car and we went to the mortuary to see their little baby (Joyce Gabbitas), it was a beautiful child, at least 9 or 10 lbs. A prayer was offered there, then we went to the cemetery. Afterwards, we returned to Port’s home.
Agnes (Agnes Coalter Golightly) came down from Clearfield to attend the funeral, but when she called, I was at the Miller funeral and she thought I must have gone out to Port’s, she had lunch with Esther (Emily Esther Sperry) and then and to the hospital and visited with Della (Della Lunt), I think that was for the best as it must have been hard on Della to know what was taking place and she unable to be there, she certainly is a brick and has taken her loss in a very sensible way.
