Journal: Jeanette Sperry

1946 (Friday) – We have had a day or two of rainy weather, but the sun is trying to struggle through. Yesterday our nation was tied up in a nationwide railroad strike, which is certainly damaging our country’s welfare, we are also threatened with a complete shutdown of soft coal, it is certainly a troubleous time for as soon as one big strike gets settled, right on the heels comes another one preventing the completing of the work project plans which was going to provide homes and jobs for our returned veterans. Oh, the trouble and strife there still is in the old world of ours makes one wonder how it will all turn out.

All politics, everyone grabbing for themselves, regardless of what suffering and sorry they bring on the innocent and helpless. If only love could take possession of the hearts of human beings, what a different place it would be.

Evening – I went up to the Genealogical Library and worked for almost two hours on the Bishop and Blakesley lines.
