1946 (Friday) – Received a card from Alfred (Alfred Oscar Lunt, Jr.) and Mary (Mary Etta George) saying they enjoyed their visit with us very much and that they had a nice visit with George (George Thornton Holman) and Eva (Eva Ruth Lunt). I also received one from Mrs. Heaton Lunt (Chloe Haws) in which she said that Broughton Lunt, her husband’s (Heaton Lunt) eldest brother, had been found by his wife (Mary Amanda Mortenson), in the bedroom, shot through the temple. His wife Mary had just left the room for a few minutes when she heard the shot. It was a 22 gun, they think he may have taken the gun out to go out and kill some squirrels or skunk’s, as they have been bothering them a lot lately, and the gun got caught someway on the foot of the bed and gone off. Broughton was such a wonderful man, so good and very religious. They can’t believe it was self destruction. He had been in poor health for several years, but still they can’t believe he did it on purpose. He left a wife, Mary, and six sons (Broughton Kenneth, Olas A., Henry Rudd, Elno James, Irl and Elvin M. Lunt), all very faithful in their church duties, it was a terrible thing to happen.
She said they had a little get together while so many of the Lunt’s were there and they had 75 Lunt relatives and all were not present.
Della (Emma Della Sperry) and Retta (Retta Sperry) returned home. Earl (Earl Sperry Lunt) started work.
