1946 (Friday) – I worked real hard all morning. In the afternoon, I went over to Esther’s (Emily Esther Sperry). Della (Emma Della Sperry) seemed to feel a little and when the sun began to feel quite warm outside. Esther thought the sunshine would be good for her. Della and I sat out there for a little while, but although the sun was quite warm, there was a little breeze. After returning inside, I had to go home. Della was expecting to leave the next morning.
Later in the evening, Lillian (Lillian May Sperry) called, said Della was much worse, had a fever of a hundred and four. She had been trying to locate her doctor, but could not, so asked me to try and find one to go down and see Della. I called the home of Doctor Leslie White, he was up to the University and the one who answered the phone, advised me to call the L.D. S. Hospital for a suggestion of where to find a doctor.
The lady who answered asked me if I was a patient of Dr. White, and then she would try to locate him for me, if she couldn’t, would try and get someone else.
Later, Dr. White called. It was impossible for him to make the call, but he would send someone else. When I called later to see how Della was feeling, Karl (Karl Farnsworth) answered and said the Doctor was there and he was a Doctor Barton, son of a man he used to know very well, he was quite delighted to meet him. It was found that Della had tonsillitis and was quite ill, had she insisted on leaving with the folks in the morning, no doubt, would have had pneumonia.
