Journal: Jeanette Sperry

1946 (Sunday) – It Ward Conference. I attended the ten o’clock session. About 4 p.m. Earl (Earl Sperry Lunt) took me out to Maxine’s (Maxine Carter). This is the first time I have seen her son (Brent Howard Allen) since he was two weeks old. He is surely growing and smiles so sweetly. Lillian (Lillian May Sperry) went with us over to Roy Pay’s home as they were holding an open house for Mattie Paxman, mother of Georgetta Pay, as she is 80 years old, but she doesn’t look it.

We met a lot of people we hadn’t seen for a long while among them, Georgetta and her sister Francis. Grace Evans Soby, Bert Paxman and wife, Ted Paxman and I met his wife. Oscar Garrett, Hattie Axelson (was Bird), her brother Charles Willie Bird, Sister Etta Pyper, age 95, her daughter Mayme Pyper, there may have been others. I can’t remember. I surely enjoyed seeing them. They served cake, punch and candy.

It rained most of the day. Evening – I had to go to the drug store, then I went to Esther’s (Emily Esther Sperry). My shoes were so wet I had to take them off, but my feet were not wet. Thile I was there, the doctor came in. He found Della (Emma Della Sperry) much improved and out of danger. He did not need to make another visit.
