1946 (Thursday) – Been busy at home all day except for a trip up town to buy some sheet blankets for Della (Della Lunt), she has been trying all winter to get some and I saw some on sale this morning at Sears. I have been reading, typing and patching most of the day. I forgot to mention one thing that happened at Port’s (Porty Lewis Gabbitas) on Christmas Eve. After the children (Ivy Joan, Gordon Lewis, Larry Lunt, Judith Ann and Ted Lunt Gabbitas) had gone to bed and while Port and Della were putting the finishing touches on the tree, a knock came at the door and in walked Santa Claus, a great big man with a big voice, when he found out that the children were in bed, he ordered them to be brought out so they could see Santa, he had a pack on his back. The kiddies were quite thrilled. He gave them each a snack of nuts and candy and an orange. Then he asked how many there were and tossed some more sacks on the couch, said he had a lot of places to go, so hurried. He had a very rich looking suit on, looked like velvet.
Afterwards, Larry said “I didn’t believe there was a Santa Claus, but now I know there is, for I have seen him”.
They have no idea who he was and he did not visit any of the neighbors.
Earl (Earl Sperry Lunt) returned from Pleasant Grove after having had a very splendid time.
