John Rowley and Sarah Wright Family Messenger

HISTORIAN’S REPORT:
By Luella Jones Downard

The John Rowley and Sarah Wright Family Organization suffered a great loss in the passing away of Lillian Alcorn Rowley, the wife of our beloved president, David William Rowley. She not only blessed him with her great faith, loving support and loyalty, but she inspired all of us in everything we attempted to do. She took it on herself to know the responsibilities and problems of each and every worker in the organization. She gave is the full support of her love and encouragement. She inspired us with us her humble faith and sweet spirit. She did more than this, she gave of her time, strength and finances to further every phase of the work. She spent untold hours in prayer and worry over our our problems and as many long hours that reached into days, weeks and long, weary months in the Genealogical Library and in other physical phases of the work. She was a perfectionist and in everything, especially in herself.

We will get along, somehow, without her – because, we must. We would waste all her efforts if we did not carry on, now she is gone.

She was a member of the Historian’s staff and so very much of the success we have had, we owe to her. Words are so inadequate in trying to describe Lillian,

At the Executive meeting held, Sunday 7 February 1960, it was decided that the historian would furnish the paper with the following types of histories; a history of one of our early ancestors, of these we have printed the beginning of a history of the life of Ralph Nephi Rowley, which we will return to as soon as we complete the history of James Rowley and his wives. We have printed a history of Mary Shirlock and her daughter Zuriah, a history of Hannah Barrows and we are currently working on a history if Mary and Martha Day. An installment will not be printed in this issue of the paper because of the finding of a new source of information and we want to use if fully and be sure to use all the information we can gather.

Another  type of history is one of our closer ancestry who are still living. We wish to honor them while they still live to enjoy it. Of these type of history we have printed one installment of the history of Mary Ann Rowley Jones. We have a history of this kind being written of Emily Rowley Wade. We also printed two installments of a history of Hugh Thompson Rowley who passed away years ago.

Now we have decided to print a fourth type of history – an obituary history, to be printed as soon as possible after the death of any member of the family. We are beginning two of this type of histories in this issue of the paper. A biography installment of Eliza May Rowley Bennett and a biography installment of Lillian Alcorn Rowley,

Both Aunt Eliza May Rowley Bennett and Lillian Alcorn Rowley have the beginning of a history. We will print 81 them as written and then some of their loved ones will complete the history in succeeding issues of the paper.

We would like to encourage those of you who lose loved ones to send a history of their life into me as soon after their passing as possible
