1896 – We were all very busy at school getting ready for the entertainment in honor of George Washington’s birthday. A group of girls were dressed in costumes representing Martha (Martha Daindridge Custis) Washington, I was dressed in a long white skirt, white cap, pink shawl and dark waist, I had my hair powdered and I looked like quite an old lady.
