Journal: Jeanette Sperry

1896 (Tuesday) – I went down to Grover’s to see May (May Grover). It was her birthday. She was 17 years old. May and I came up to the post office. Oscar Lunt (Alfred Oscar Lunt) came in and talked to us for a few minutes. May and I took a walk while waiting for the mail to be delivered. I went up to Grandmothers (Emily Louisa Miller) and found Esther (Emily Esther Sperry) there. I went up to Burton’s and had dinner. Esther and I got Mother (Caroline Webb) and we three went down to Hyde’s Store. Mother waited there while I went over to the drug store then we started back to Grandmother’s. I went into the Excelsior and while there they gave me a nice box of Choice Candy to take to Mother. Later Mother and I came down home. Coming down the lane the horse (Old Johnie) stumbled and I dropped the line. We were afraid we might have a runaway but Mother quickly reached down and picked up the line so we reached home safely. In the evening Father (Charles Henry Sperry) and I went up town to a theater. I played on Clifford Bales little organ.
