1897 (Monday) – In the afternoon Father (Charles Henry Sperry) and I went up town, I went up to Burton’s and then down town. I went over to the Coop and then over to Hydes’s Store. I called in at the port office and then went back up to Burtons. I went to the Valentine Dance with Father he had six partners: Mrs. Burton, Zoa Christensen, Min (Minnie Lamont Abbott) and Maud (Ruth Maud Abbott), Esther (Emily Esther Sperry) and I, he had us a lovely time. It was like one of our old last winter dances, just lovely. I got to dance with our new druggist and found out that his dancing was as nice as himself. I met Mr. Ramsey McPherson, he is quite a nice dance, I got one valentine, they had nothing but slurs there and mine was a beauty I can tell you, I believe Monte (Monte Whitmore) sent it. After the dance Father and I came out home.
