Journal: Jeanette Sperry

1947 (Friday) – Cleaned for Saturday: bedroom, front and dining rooms. About 12:30 I met Esther (Emily Esther Sperry) on West Temple and we went up to the Lion House for dinner. The Relief Teachers were entertained by the officers, both wards combined. Long tables were set with some lovely flowers, covered wagons with sagebrush in them and a pioneer doll made out of a wooden spoon, small one with face drawn on the bowl of the spoon, paper doily used for the under slip and a skirt and waist of gingham, etc.. goods with a supposed shawl and sunbonnet around neck and on the head, for favors. The food was delicious. There were one hundred present, teachers, officers and guests. The eating was interspersed with music, furnished by some women with harmonicas, guitars and mandolins. Doctor Stephenson’s wife as leader, also short talks and two pioneers stories. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. On our way to the Lion House we were the object of many curious pairs of eyes of those we passed as we were all dressed in Pioneer costumes.

In the evening I went to the Genealogical Library. As no one seemed to need my help, I worked on the Wheeler Line, copying entries from the Cranfield Parish Register.

Had a letter from Lillian (Lillian Lunt), she told me Carl (Carl Hatch Hunter) was operated on for appendicitis on Wednesday, was doing well. Poor kids, they seem to be having their troubles.
