Journal: Jeanette Sperry

1947 (Monday) – I had to make a trip to town to pay some bills. Before going up I went over to Smith’s to see how Mr. Smith was and learned he had died that morning about ten minutes to one o’clock. They are all trying to be so brave, but of course they feel terrible, yet they all know it is for the best as he would have been an invalid had he lived.

It has been another very hot day again today.

We received a postal card from Alfred (Alfred Oscar Lunt, Jr.) and Mary (Mary Etta George) stating they were having dinner in St. George and it was two o’clock, that so far they had had no trouble with either car.

I’m anxious to get another card stating they reached home safely.
