Born in Santa Barbara, California, February 14, 1960 to Wendell and Marjorie Nelson, a son, Joel Robert. Joel is the fifth generation Californian, being a great-great-grandson of Zuriah Rowley and Lorenzo Snow Lyman. His father, Wendell A. Nelson recently received his Doctor’s Degree in Music at Northwestern University at Evanston, Illinois and is on the Music Department of the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Gordon and Deanie Sondker and little Susan have moved from Worcester, Mass. to Longview, Washington and will be permanently settler there. Deanie is a sister of Marjorie Nelson and a great-granddaughter of Zuriah Rowley and Lorenzo Snow Lyman.
Charlie and Helen Anderson of Washington D.C. left July 20th 1960 on a trip to Europe with a group of geologists. The tour will include Sweden, Norway, Holland, Belgium, England and Scotland. Charlie received an honorary degree of Doctor of Science from Pomona College at their commencement in June and in April the Department of Interior granted to him its highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contributions to the science of geology.
Linda Anderson, daughter of Robert and Velma Anderson of Apple Valley, California underwent major heart surgery last October, and I am happy to report that she is completely recovered. She was born with a defective heart and they found three holes to be repaired. She graduated from High School in June and will enter College in the fall. Robert and Charlie are sons of Mary Lyman Anderson, daughter of Zuriah Rowley and Lorenzo Snow Lyman.
A letter from Edith Lyman, widow of my brother, Cornelius, says her family are all well and her grandson-in-law will be home soon from service as an aviator on an airplane carrier in the South Seas Waters. His home is in Anaheim, California.
