1947 (Friday) – Today I finished my one room upstairs, Oscar (Alfred Oscar Lunt) and I started out to the laundry for our washing. Stopped at a market for groceries then started up 8th South. While crossing Main Street, we did not notice a stop sign and as we were almost across, we were struck by a street patrol man. I didn’t see him. All I knew, I felt our car being pushed around in the middle of the road and I thought, “What’s happening to us?” then came the comforting thought of a blessing promised me by a Patriarch, years ago, “A mantle of protection shall be around about you and keep you from every danger both seen and unseen”. There must have been quite a jolt as I found my hat in the back of the car. Some young fellow came up to my window and asked me if I was hurt, I said “No, only I’m trembling from head to foot”, he told me to lay back and relax, for I was white as a sheet. Dad was all shaken up too, our fender was ruined and we just got it fixed, there was considerable damage to the car that struck us. It was a State Patrol Officer, C. G. Fogle.

In the evening he came to see us, seemed very nice and wanted to save us all the expense he could, was quite concerned about me for fear I had been hurt, also about Dad. He left his hap here. Father stayed home from work.
